Description

Yala Villa is a private safari retreat set just 15 minutes from the entrance to Yala National Park, near the coastal village of Kirinda in Sri Lanka's deep south. It's built for families and groups who want the thrill of the jungle without giving up the comforts of a private home, a place where you can leave before dawn for a game drive and come back to your own pool, your own chef and your own space, rather than a hotel buffet and a shared lobby. The villa sleeps up to eleven guests across three ensuite bedrooms and comes fully staffed, which makes it a natural base for a group safari trip, a multi-generational family holiday, or anyone who wants Yala on their own terms.

Staying this close to the park matters more than most people realise. Yala's gates open at 6.00am, and the first vehicles in get the quietest tracks and the best light, the window when leopards are still moving and the crowds haven't built. From a villa fifteen minutes away, that early start is genuinely achievable rather than a two-hour ordeal.

Inside the main house, cooling polished-cement floors and soft sea-green accents set a calm, uncluttered tone, a deliberate contrast to the heat and dust of the landscape outside. The walls carry striking wildlife photography taken by the owner, images shot in this very park, which quietly sets the mood for what you've come here to see.

Two long verandahs run along the house and open directly onto the central garden and private swimming pool, and this is where most of the day ends up happening.

Dining, and a Fully Staffed Villa

Yala is gloriously remote, and that's part of the appeal, but it also means restaurants aren't on the doorstep. The villa solves this the right way: a dedicated in-house chef and a full staff team look after all the cooking, from home-style Sri Lankan rice and curry to poolside lunches and evening barbecues under a sky full of stars. Safari days start early and finish dusty, so meals here work around you rather than the other way round, an early coffee before a 5.30am departure, a proper breakfa

Yala National Park - What to Expect

Yala is Sri Lanka's most famous wildlife reserve and one of the best places on earth to see a leopard in the wild. The park's Block 1, reached through the Palatupana gate closest to Kirinda, holds the highest density of leopards anywhere in the world, roughly one animal per square kilometre, and because these leopards have grown used to vehicles, they're far less elusive here than in most parks. Alongside them you'll find a population of around 250–300 elephants, sloth bears, sambar and spotted

Kirinda and the Deep South

Beyond the park, this corner of Sri Lanka rewards a longer stay. Kirinda itself is a small fishing village with a historic clifftop temple looking out over the Indian Ocean, a good spot for sunset and a quiet counterpoint to the intensity of a game drive. The sacred pilgrimage town of Kataragama, one of the island's most important multi-faith sites, is a short drive inland. Birdwatchers should make time for Bundala National Park, a Ramsar wetland just along the coast where flamingos gather in se

Ideal For

Group safaris, multi-generational family adventures, and travellers who want a genuine wildlife experience with the privacy, space and service of their own fully staffed villa. It's particularly well suited to families with children, a pool to burn off energy between drives, a chef who'll cook what they'll actually eat, and no need to keep anyone quiet in a hotel corridor at 5am.

Wow what an amazing place to stay near the jungle. I stayed there for three nights this time but I was also here 11 years ago. Nothing much has changed. It’s still super clean and spectacular. The staff were amazing and so attentive to my needs specially when I needed my gin and tonics food was fantastic and having a pool in this heat was great. The whole experience was amazing. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. I spoke to. I do have a couple of family friends that are coming over to Sri Lanka in the next couple of years and have told them of Yala Villa I’m hoping to be back next February with my husband and Brother and mum again and will definitely be coming down to stay 10 out of 10

We had a two night stay to celebrate my mother's birthday and we had booked the entire cozy Villa at yala. We used the pool for both days the kids enjoyed the pool. The food by chef shantha was delicious. The caretaker Sumedha had organised everything soo well. The villa was clean and spacious and the service was top quality. We will come back again for another stay. We thank the manager Shawn Pereira for supporting all our requests.

My friends and I (seven of us) stayed at Yala Villa for one night and we had an amazing time from check-in to checkout. The staff, especially the chef, went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The chef prepared Sri Lankan dishes that were absolutely delicious and definitely deserve a special mention.

The villa has three rooms and all three rooms has double bed and two of them has a sofa beds. The bathrooms are nicely designed with an antique touch, and the walls are decorated with beautiful wildlife photography. The villa is small, but the space is well-arranged and comfortable. Free Wi-Fi was available, which was convenient.

We enjoyed the pool, went for walks, and even visited a nearby temple. The staff were very knowledgeable and explained everything about the area. Overall, it was a lovely experience and we had a fantastic day.

This is my second time visiting to this place. Love this place and the vila concept. They have changed the dorms concept for separate rooms. All round this place is amazing. Food is great and the service also good. But we have faced few difficulties as our wash room was clogged. And we have faced a small pilferage with the staff. We haven’t informed the staff because it’s a small item.
