Where Is Ranawara
Ranawara sits at Kahandamodara, on a quiet stretch of beach east of Tangalle where the beach runs long and largely empty. The estate borders the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary, one of the best birdwatching wetlands in the south, you'll see peacocks and waterbirds without leaving the gardens. Tangalle town is around 25–30 minutes drive away, and the turtle nesting beach at Rekawa is also a similar drive. The Pool and Outdoor Living
Ranawara's pool is a key highlight of the villa. At 33 metres, Ranawara's infinity pool is one of the longest private pools in Sri Lanka. Float at dusk, swim at dawn, or simply sit beside it with a drink as the light changes over the gardens. There are many places around the villa which the guests can use to relax or to celebrate a special occasion too.

Ranawara comes with fully staffed - a resident manager who runs the house, assistant manager to help with the operations, a private chef preparing Sri Lankan and international menus, butlers, and room attendants. Meals, excursions, and day-to-day requests are handled in-house, the same standard of service you'd expect from a boutique hotel, without ever sharing the property with other guests.

Three bedroom suites sit on the ground floor alongside the double-height formal sitting room and library. The villa itself is an architectural masterpiece. Its open-plan design seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing the beauty of the surrounding landscape to become part of the living experience.
The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the infinity pool, We spent countless hours lounging by the poolside, One cannot talk about this villa without mentioning the exceptional service. The staff were incredibly attentive, always anticipating our needs without being intrusive. From the warm welcome upon our arrival to the thoughtful turndown service each night, every detail was handled with care and professionalism The private chef prepared exquisite meals, showcasing the best of Sri Lankan cuisine daily.

You won't find a better place on the south coast of Sri Lanka. This place is truly magical. Seneka is world-class helpful and everyone working there is friendly, convivial. We were on a tour and this is by far the best accommodation and setting we found - spacious, and relaxing and with everything on site. The breakfasts and the suppers are superb. They were more than generous about the bills. Really, we have nothing but praise and we will be back.
The only things to consider are: the sea is definitely not swimmable, this is off the beaten track and more of a place to 'land' and stay than anything. And, sure, the cost is high - but really totally worth it by comparison to other top end SL places - especially the hotel lodges and other villas.
One more thing: the pool is next level - we swam three times a day.
My family and I recently visited the exquisitely beautiful Sri Lanka. From the moment we stepped off the airplane in Columbo, we witnessed the beauty of the Sri Lanken people. Sri Lanka is a must place to visit and must be on your bucket list!. Ranawara Villa is an equally beautifully architected extension of Sri Lanka. Outside the gates before entering the estate, you'll be totally in awe once you walk through the front door. You are first taken into the main guest area and given a taste of Sri Lanken coconut water and whilst being admiring the opulence of the Great Room you'll get your first opportunity to meet the nicest, always smiling and beautiful staff!!. You are then taken to your grand palace of your own private oasis you can call home (at least while you're there!). You can obviously tell that the Owners took consideration and time in designing the villa. After waking up the next morning, you'll can really appreciate the grandness of the entire Ranawara's hidden gems from the beauty everywhere you turn. After being greated by Senaka (manager) and his staff, you are treated to the first exquisite meal (of many!!). Kudos to the Chef (and to the entire staff!).
Ranawara Villa is the perfect extension of Sri Lanka taken to the highest of heights!!. The warm staff always watches out for you making sure everything is okay and if you want / need anything. Your entire stay there will be forever melted into your heart as memories formed here will be with you forever. Everything from the delicious meals, super friendly / family like staff, beauty of the grounds will make you fell like a King!!!

We spent a week here for a family holiday. It was simply unforgettable. The facilities are first class, the staff were incredible - always making us feel at home and comfortable. The kitchen team prepared some great meals. Sadly a week just went by too quickly!
We spent a week at Ranawara Villa in early Feb 2024. At the moment that we drove to the Villa, we were so impressed and touched. Staff were standing by the door welcoming us warmly, took us a modern and beautiful living room area, and provided us with delicious coconut fruit drinks. Each suite was awesome and beautifully designed and comfortably layed out for perfect relaxation!
I can go on and on about the beauty of the villa, gardens, swimming pool, and private beach.
The highlight of the Villa was the exquisite service from the manager Senaka, the chef Chamara, and all other supporting staff.
They made us feel so special and so comfortable. They were always smiling, caring, and accommodating.
The words can't describe what we have experienced here, but this is one of the places you can add to "must visit place in Sri Lanka!"
