As your train travels from Kandy to Ella, a lovely, cloud-shrouded village, prepare for the most beautiful train ride of your life. The train ride to Ella rivals even the Trans-Siberian Railway, passing through green oceans of tea plantations, cottony clouds, breathtaking views of verdant hills, and eventually weaving in and out of various mountain tunnels as it descends to Ella! It is without a doubt one of the most unusual things to do in Sri Lanka, with such a rejuvenating experience to offer.

Watersports are available on the Madu River and at Bentota's beaches. Jet skiing, banana boat rides, parasailing, paramotoring, speed boat rides, yachting, canoeing, kayaking, and boating in the mangrove forests are all options for water babies and beach bums in Bentota. Watersports are without a doubt among the most exciting things to do in Sri Lanka.

The Dambulla Cave Temple, a combination of unrivaled beauty and tranquillity in Lanka, is recognized as one of Sri Lanka's most ancient (dating back to the 2nd century BC) constructions, attracting visitors with its large golden figure of Lord Buddha and the temple's golden dome. With prehistoric paintings, carvings, and an abundance of tranquility, this temple is a popular destination for spiritual seekers and Buddhists. One of the top things to do in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, is to visit the country's largest rock cave temple, which is surrounded by lush forests and houses statues of Buddhist monks in its caves.

The island is located off the coasts of Trincomalee and Nilaveli, two of Sri Lanka's most popular tourist destinations. To enter the park, expect to pay around 8,000 LKR for two people, which includes a national park fee.

One of the most enjoyable things to do in Mirissa, Sri Lanka, is to go on a guided whale watching or dolphin watching excursion (or both) to see these incredible sea creatures sprinting around gleefully. The best time to go on a dolphin/whale watching cruise in Mirissa is from November to April, when the ocean is calmer and these species may be seen close to your boat. With all of the adrenaline-fueled thrills and enjoyment it offers, it's one of the best things to do in Sri Lanka in December, when the chances of seeing whales and dolphins in the sea off Mirissa are at their highest.

The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, like the turtle hatcheries in Bentota, was established to give a home, as well as nourish and care for abandoned, injured, or abused elephants. The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage has made significant contributions to the welfare and protection of elephants in Sri Lanka, now housing over 40 elephants, many of them are young. One of the most soothing free things to do in Sri Lanka is to watch these wicked, yet adorable creatures bathe in the river near the orphanage, where they engage in mischief, drag one another by their tails, and try to escape the hands of their caretakers in entertaining ways. One of the highlights of the trip will surely be a visit to this orphanage.

You've probably heard of some of Sri Lanka's best land national parks, but did you know the country also has a stunning marine national park called Pigeon Island? Despite the fact that both the island and the waters surrounding it are protected, most visitors come to see what's in the water!

Climbing those rocky steps and tiny metal staircases in the scorching sun may seem daunting, but as you reach the top, you'll find that your efforts were well worth it! With its amazing 360-degree views of the surrounding hills, forests, meadows, lakes, and even Sigiriya monuments from a bird's-eye viewpoint, the Sigiriya Rock Fortress never fails to enchant visitors with its majesty and splendor. With such spectacular views, this fortress at Sigiriya should be on any enthusiastic traveler's Sri Lanka agenda.
People with arthritis, back problems, joint difficulties, and other physical problems should avoid the climb.

Beachgoers and ocean lovers will appreciate Sri Lanka's vast coastline, which is home to some of the world's most beautiful beaches. Sri Lanka is brimming with fantastic beaches, including Bentota, Weligama, Galle, Induruwa, Hikkaduwa, Koggala, Polhena, Negombo, and Trincomalee, each offering travelers a unique set of views and experiences.
Hikkaduwa and Polhena beaches, on the other hand, are a little different because they have the best chances of seeing and swimming with giant turtles. At both of these beaches, you can swim from the beach and come within meters of massive sea turtles. Swimming with sea turtles is completely free at both locations. However, for the best experience, we recommend that you bring or rent snorkeling equipment.
Polhena Beach was everyone's favorite place to swim with the turtles because of the calm water. It's also easily accessible, being only 20 minutes south of Mirissa and reachable by taxi.

The Sigiriya Rock is the main attraction in Sigiriya, however if you're on a budget and want to do some hiking and watch the best sunset in Sri Lanka, you may climb the Pidurangala Rock, which is only 3 feet shorter than the Sigiriya Rock.
The entrance charge is merely 500 LKR, and you will have the best seat in the house to watch the sunset while in Sri Lanka. Pidurangala Rock takes around 20 minutes to climb, is much less crowded, and is a more cheap alternative to ascending Sigiriya Rock for many visitors.
Of course, there are no old ruins on Pidurangala Rock, but if history isn't your thing, that may not be a problem.

Yala Park, which is home to the country's sole leopards, is the only place in Sri Lanka where leopards can roam freely in their natural habitat. This park is a must-see for all nature and wildlife enthusiasts, adventurers, and wildlife photographers. Leopards, elephants, Sri Lankan sloth bears, turtles, macaques, fishing cats, and other animals can be found in this park on a clear, rain-free day. Among the dangerous reptiles unique to Sri Lanka include monitor lizards, various crocodile species, Sri Lankan flying snakes, Fan-throated lizards, Indian cobras, Russell's Viper, and Sri Lankan krait. One of Sri Lanka's most interesting pastimes is a safari in Yala National Park.

Sri Lanka is regarded for producing some of the best tea in the world. In the hilly region of the cultural triangle, tea thrives on every slope. It's not only a great place to try the world's freshest and cheapest tea, but the views are also spectacular.
Ella, Nuwara Eliya, and Haputale are just a few of the famous tea-growing places in Sri Lanka. You can spend the entire day admiring the breathtaking views of the tea fields or taking a leisurely stroll through them, visiting tea factories and learning everything there is to know about tea manufacturing from start to finish.
Exploring the tea estates and learning how tea is made is unquestionably one of the best things to do in Sri Lanka, no matter where you go. After all, tea is a vital part of Sri Lankan culture and one of their most significant commodities.
Tea plantations are quite popular in Sri Lanka. Tea is grown in vast open plantations throughout the country, yielding outstanding varietals. You can peek into a few of them and inhale the pleasant aroma of tea and herbs. In the Bogawantalawa valley, the estates occupy a huge area.

Adam's Peak is without a doubt one of Sri Lanka's most unique locations. For them, it is a pilgrimage of tremendous religious significance. Many tourists, on the other hand, are more interested in the breathtaking views and wandering with the people than in religious significance.
The hike to Adam's Peak should be done first thing in the morning so that you may witness the sunrise from the top. Adam's Peak, at 1,000 meters above sea level, is not for the faint of heart. The climb takes roughly 5 to 7 hours and reaches a height of 2,243 meters above sea level.
The track is most commonly walked from Kandy, with parties departing early in the morning. A local tour and transportation to and from Adam's Peak are included.

Secret Beach is one of our favorite beaches in Sri Lanka. Despite the fact that it is no longer so secret, this lovely isolated bay is unquestionably worth a visit and a must do in Mirissa. Mirissa is an a 5-minute tuk-tuk ride from the beach, and all local drivers know the region.
After you arrive, you can relax in one of the lounge chairs or find a wonderful area on the beach to lay down. On the beach, there is a small restaurant that serves both food and drinks. Allow at least a half-day to truly appreciate this "undiscovered" gem!
