Mayurana is Located inland near the Koggala Lake and this will make you relax from the moment you set eyes on the property itself. The beautiful house was constructed lovingly in an old Dutch style, and it’s perched perkily on a hill overlooking a functioning cinnamon estate.
From the top of the small hill, you can look south to the ocean and north to Koggala Lake. Plenty of day trips are possible using Monara as a base: trekking through Sinharaja Rainforest, a safari in Yala National Park or a trip to Galle’s ancient fortress. Not to mention the southern beaches. At the villa, you can watch a cinnamon cultivation demonstration, book a massage, yoga session or wellness treatment, or take advantage of the beautiful, relaxing pool. The view from the Jacuzzi is particularly spectacular. There’s an extremely well-equipped gym, too, just in case the trekking trips don’t wear you out.
There are three color-themed rooms and one lovely suite. All rooms feature private terraces, and you can take dinner on yours at your leisure. Speaking of dinner, the food and drinks are a treat, and many of them are infused delightfully with… you guessed it, cinnamon. The villa is full of lovely corners and open spaces for sitting, dining and relaxing.
Monara means “sanctuary for peacocks”, and although it’s not officially one, there are plenty of peacocks wandering around the grounds. This is a fabulous find in southern Sri Lanka. If you need to be close to the beach, it might be a bit too far inland for your purposes, but the management is always happy to organise a tuk tuk ride, so don’t let that stop you from missing out on a great accommodation experience
